Case study: Bishop Auckland College & Nursery

LED Supply & Fit works across the UK and can help customers save up to 90 per cent on their electricity bills via innovative LED products. Director and owner, Gary Rudd has over 20 years’ experience as an electrician and in the last 12 months, the company has replaced over 900,000 standard lights with energy saving LED Lights, resulting in millions of pounds saved by customers and the reduction of over 3000 tonnes of carbon emissions.

One of the organisations LED Supply & Fit recently worked with is the Bishop Auckland College & Nursery.

Over a three-week period this Summer LED Supply & Fit products including more than 900 LED fittings ranging from emergency lights to LED panels and floodlights to wall lights were installed by G&B Electrical Contractors of Newton Aycliffe throughout the college and its nursery, including in the reception and performing arts areas.

Not only will the new LED lighting offer more natural-looking light than the usual yellow sodium light, but energy-saving LED panels use just half the wattage of traditional lighting, and while fluorescent lights might last between three and 15 thousand hours, the LED equivalent will give 50 thousand-plus hours. Combined, these factors make LED lower maintenance, cheaper to run and more energy-saving than traditional lighting.

LED Supply & Fit provides free surveys to potential clients before appointing local contractors to carry out the work, and in this instance the company worked out the college would enjoy annual savings of £18,000 per year – a 65 per cent reduction in their annual energy bill. This means their investment in the new lighting system will be returned in 32 months.

“We have used G & B Electrical Contractors before and found them to be a first-class company that provides an excellent, efficient and effective service. They source products from LED Supply & Fit which are always competitively priced and have completed all the projects within the time scales required,” says the college’s estates and facilities manager.

“The company was also very helpful in providing advice on the different lighting options available to us and gave us the annual savings projections that the college would be benefitting from going forward, so we knew the savings that were going to be made.”
