Fluorescent Tubes

Are Fluorescent Tubes Banned in the UK in 2023?

Yes. Starting in September 2023, a range of fluorescent lamps and halogen capsule lamps are set to undergo a gradual phase-out. This change is a direct result of new legislation, which will cease the manufacturing of these lamps. However, while supplies last, you will still have the opportunity to purchase and install these products.

The reason behind this shift is the implementation of the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) regulations. These regulations aim to limit the use of harmful substances in electrical products, with a particular focus on reducing the use of mercury in lighting items.

As for the availability of fluorescent tubes, they will remain on the market until existing stock is depleted. Unfortunately, there are no guarantees regarding how long this stock will last.

Thankfully, there is a viable alternative to fluorescent tubes in the form of LED batten lights. These LED options not only provide cost-effective and energy-efficient lighting but also contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly choice.
